“Over the last twenty years, I have been blessed to be in Africa many times, from a visit in the 80’s to our Peace-Corps volunteer daughter in West Africa and ending with a month spent in Kenya in 2013 with Susan Deslaurier Olofson. I chose travel with Susan because I wanted “giving-back” trip. Her deep cultural knowledge of the country and connections with local communities enabled her to plan an experience with access to local city and village medical facilities where I was embedded with their staff to learn from them and share my passion for maternal health. I can only hope that what they gained from me was one-tenth of the joy, experience and knowledge I gained from them.
